The Spatial Illusion exhibition stand was created for Slovyanski Wallpaper, with the primary goal of presenting the company's products in a space that is maximally viewed from all sides. The aesthetic concept of the stand was based on the idea of open gates, organized by arches. From the main entrance, the group of arches appears flat in perspective. However, as one moves through the arches into the stand, they unfold to reveal three dimensions and rhythm.
The design's unique properties lie in its innovative use of space and perspective. The stand was modeled in a 3D program to find the perfect point from which three different figures could be seen as one shape. This point, located about one meter from the left corner of the stand and 1700 mm high, creates an intriguing spatial illusion.
The stand was constructed from plywood, with beams painted in white and arches decorated with wallpaper and wood panels featuring logos. The exhibition stand measures 13000 mm x 10000 mm x 4000 mm, providing ample space for the display of Slovyanski Wallpaper's products.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was projecting the asymmetric arches considering linear and reverse perspectives to create the illusion of depth. This illusion was achieved by creating asymmetric arches with displacement in space, which appear flat from one point of view but reveal three dimensions from another.
The Spatial Illusion stand was designed in Moscow, Russia, between September and December 2019, and was exhibited at the Trade Fair Heimtextil 2020 in Frankfurt Am Main, Germany. The project is a testament to Bilak's innovative approach to design, blending art, architecture, and technology to create a unique and engaging space.
In conclusion, Viktor Bilak's Spatial Illusion is a remarkable example of innovative design and architectural prowess. It not only serves as a functional exhibition stand but also as an artistic exploration of space and perspective. This design, which has rightfully earned its place among the winners of the A' Design Award, continues to inspire and intrigue, demonstrating the endless possibilities of architectural design.
